Yes, we’ve managed to squeeze in one more show b4 the end of 2007 !
This one is a 70s and 80s Disco special to help you welcome in the new year.
We feature:

Charles Earland - The late Jazz composer, organist, and saxophonist stunned the Jazz-Funk dance floors with this fast moving calorie burner from the late seventies.

Players Association - With a title track of the Players Association’s 1979 album, also pop hit , we believe on both sides of the atlantic. The Players Association was a group of varying lineups of Jazz musicians, led by Chris Hills. Read more on

Slave - A Funk band from Ohio that started in the 70s.
Spot the deliberate mistake by the Professor! Due to licensing restrictions we cannot list the track name but the Doc announced the right one!
Patrice Rushen - Haven’t you heard

Hi Tension - Hi Tension - This pioneering British funk group came from North London.

Light of the World - You may remember hearing time as the last track on the previous new years special.

Heatwave - The album ‘Too Hot To Handle’ was a smash hit in the UK in January 77 (nearly 31 years ago!) and a hit in the US later that year.

Chic - Formed back in ‘76 and still touring this hit is from the debut album Chic. The album also featured the classic, ‘Everybody Dance’

Barry White - A Grammy Award winning American record producer, songwriter and singer responsible for the creation of numerous hit soul and disco songs. He released numerous gold and platinum albums, as well as numerous gold singles and platinum singles. This track, was released back in 1975 and reached #8 in the US and #5 in the UK charts.

Sam and Dave - The Soul vocal duo, Sam & Dave recorded and performed together from 1961 through 1981; Their music and electrifying live performances have also influenced countless other artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Michael Jackson, Steve Winwood, and Phil Collins.

Detroit Spinners - A great soul group that started in a high school in Michigan over half a century ago. They had a great string of hits in the seventies with classic songs like - ‘Could it be I’m Falling In Love’, ‘The Rubberband Man’, ‘Toni My Love’, ‘They Just Can’t Stop It (Games People Play)’, ‘Getto Child’ , ‘Its A Shame’ and a great collaboration With Dionne Warwick called, ‘Then Came You’, plus a more recent collaboration with Elton John entitled, ‘Are You Ready For Love’.

Ronnie Laws
A great Fusion of Jazz-Funk and Soul, saxophonist Ronnie Laws, is the Brother of the classically trained Jazz flautist , Hubert, and vocalists Eloise and Debra. Ronnie taught himself to play alto saxophone at the age of eleven. He has worked with The Jazz Crusaders and Hugh Masakela and was a member of Earth Wind and Fire, where he played tenor and soprano sax for a two-year stint, before pursuing a solo career.

Pockets - A group from Baltimore who moved to Los Angeles in the mid seventies. They formed association with Earth, Wind And Fire, and released their debut album Come Go With Us in 1977. Working closely EWF, they had another success with the highly acclaimed album Take It On Up in 1978

EWF This track appeared on the album ‘That’s the Way of the World’ in 1975 and also appears on the album ”The Essential Earth, Wind & Fire” in 2002.

Joss Stone – with a really slow sultry and soulful sound!

Isley Brothers – With some amazing guitar work!

Johnny Bristol - With a single release in both 7 & 12″ formats back in 1981. Johnny is possibly best known for his hit,
‘Hang On In There Baby’. This track also appears on his album, ‘Free to Be Me’.

Ray Charles – The legendary singer/pianist/composer, Ray Charles, who once said ‘In music you just can’t escape when something is beautiful’. A musical genius with over five decades of great music.

Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes
- From a 12″ single released in 1979. It also appeared on their 1980 LP called ‘The Blue Album’.

Sounds of Blackness - A great track from a group that beautifully combines soul, gospel and inspirational music. Soul Holidays comes from their 1992 CD called ‘The Night Before Christmas: A Musical Fantasy’.

James Ingram with Michael McDonald - A Grammy award winner for Best R&B Vocal Performance for a Group or Duo, in 1984.

We close the show with a track from the When we Were Kings sound track album released in 1997. This track is by Brian McKnight and Diana King. Other artist’s on the CD include, The Fugees with a collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes.

For the next show S3-2 we will be back with the new Jazz, Funk, Soul, OldSchool and Fusion format for Season 3.

All proceeds for this event were presented to Dafur and The Bal Rasmi Childrens orphanage in India.

Thank you to all those who attended (many flew in especially!) and gave so generously.

As ouitlined on the podcast this was an idea conceived in Norway (Hilde), planned+ delivered in London (Doc & Prof), rehearsed virtually between Washington DC, USA (Jua) and Colchester, UK (Spiral Circuit), - facilitated by the Internet and supported by our listeners across the world.
