Smooth Groovers Podcast - Season 2 - Episode 25 - SPECIAL

Published by Dr Groove under 2007, Episode, New Talent, Season 2, Special

Welcome to another episode of the Smooth Groovers Licensed Review.

You can listen to the Podcast from i-tunes, Podfeed or by clicking on the play button below:

This week we feature a special episode, our 1st gig, recorded ‘live’ at the Brentford Watermans Art Centre, Brentford, London.
Featuring international artists:

Jua &
Spiral Circuit.

All proceeds for this event were presented to Dafur and The Bal Rasmi Childrens orphanage in India.

Thank you to all those who attended (many flew in especially!) and gave so generously.

As ouitlined on the podcast this was an idea conceived in Norway (Hilde), planned+ delivered in London (Doc & Prof), rehearsed virtually between Washington DC, USA (Jua) and Colchester, UK (Spiral Circuit), - facilitated by the Internet and supported by our listeners across the world.

We hope you enjoy this recording and feedback is as always most welcome.

Keep on Groovin’

Love from: The Doc & The Prof

You can listen from i-tunes, Podfeed or by clicking on the play button below:

This week, a special show with newies, myspace, featured artist, desert island groove or oldies! Instead, consider this week’s show as a virtual gig. What? Well, it was an idea that we had from a few years back when someone asked, ‘Who would you get for your personal concert’?

Professor has done an ace job on ensuring seamlessness…

So, sit back and imagine on this virtual concert having…

MAZE - http://www.mazemuze.com/

EARTH WIND AND FIRE - http://www.earthwindandfire.com/ & http://www.myspace.com/earthwindandfire - The band formed in Chicago, in 1969 and led by Maurice White. EWF have received twenty Grammy Award nominations, having won six. They had many hits such as Shining Star, September, Let’s Groove, and Fantasy.

CASIOPEA – http://www.casiopea.co.jp/  This Live version is from Their Live CD of 1985. Professor and I saw them Live at the Hammersmith Odeon in West London, they were really loud and peaking beyond expectations.

PAT METHENEY – http://www.patmetheny.com/ – Check out the live double 1982 album  called Travels. Released on CD in 1986.

KOOL & THE GANG – http://www.koolandthegang.com/  - This track was recorded Live @ the Ranbow Theatre in London

CRUSADERS with Josie James - Burning up the Carnival. The Double album was  released in 1981, recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

THE HEATH BROTHERS - from the 1979 album ‘Live At The Public Theatre’’ which recieved a grammy nomination in 1980. The Jazz group formed in 1975 by brothers Jimmy (tenor saxophone), Percy (bass), and Albert “Tootie” Heath (drums) and pianist Stanley Cowell.

DAVID SANBORN – This track appeared on his Heart To Heart Album released in 1978, and on CD in 1990. This Live version is from the Album ”Casino Lights: Live At Montreux” recorded live at Montreux, Switzerland in 1982. The CD version came out in 1989 or 1990

GEORGE BENSON - http://www.georgebenson.com/ and http:// www.myspace.com/georgebensonmusic  George started his recording career began at the age of 21 as a jazz guitarist.

CHUCK MANGIONE – From the Live at the Hollywood Bowl album.

Finally, THE RIPPINGTONS – featuring Russ Freeman – http://www.rippingtons.com/  From an event that was recorded live over two evenings in September of 1992. All songs composed and arranged by Russ Freeman. If you type ‘Rippingtons into ‘Youtube’ into their search engine you should find your way to some live videos. In addition, to celebrate their twenty years together, the Rippingtons have released , a CD with a DVD included, featuring a colourful retrospective as well as exciting videos from over the years. Its called the Rippingtons 20th Anniversary . Please read all about it on at their myspace page – http://www.myspace.com/rippingtons

Here are a few live gems…

For this week’s show we are back after being away for a week. (The Smooth Groovers Review is a 2 weekly podcast). This is because we awaited our license renewal that has successfully been approved for 2007.

This week’s show is marked/ categorized as a special as the Prof and I (with Master move in the back seat chillin’) recorded the show as we drove from our studio in West London to Central London, on our way to see Chris Standring at one of his London gigs. It was great to meet both Chris and Rodney Lee after the show. We wish them all the best - They are awesome artist’s that deserve ongoing success. Throughout the show we hope you enjoy the fun that we had, getting stuck in traffic jams (is that fun!?) but also enjoying our favorite sounds as usual. We’d love your feedback and hope you enjoy our latest show.

NEWIES
We have newies from Wayman Tisdale and also Rhonda Smith

FANTASTIC MYSPACE FRIENDS!
Our Thanks to Mr Shy (releases his new single in Feb – based in New York), Wendel Spencer (USA based), Anna Krantz (appearing in concert in London this month) and Maty Soul (From Paris - Soul singer, songwriter and composer) - All great talent with some incredible releases this month.

DESERT ISLAND GROOVE
Our Thanks to Mr Jimmy Biscuit for his Desert Island Groove – A wonderful John Lee Hooker track.

FEATURED ARTIST
Our featured artist this week is Chris Standring and we explore just a sample of his unique sound. Thanks again Chris for taking time to say Hi to us at the gig it was truly inspiring.

OLDIES
Our Oldies included: Roy Ayers, Chris Botti - one of our favorite Trumpeters (Chris Botti also plays with Sting), Herbie Hancock (Feat. Jonny Lang and Joss Stone), George Benson (Please head for his website and hear about his new work with Al Jarreau) - and we end with a classic Prof favorite by the Crown Heights Affair.

Thanks for all your love and support and for taking part in the PODCAST REVOLUTION!
