INÂ THE FRESH BATCH
Keith ‘Bubby ‘ Web – an artist described on the web, as a funky drummer, organic keyboardist, soulful composer, bumpin’ producer, and a master recording engineer who is bound to have you lining up for seconds!
Mike Young
We recently connected with Mike on the Jazz Matrix. A gr8 track from a CD entitled: Cruise Control by Rich Arnold and Mike Young. Mike has a classical background and his list of influences includes George Benson.
George Benson
What a great track from his new album ‘Songs and Stories’.
Michael Lington
Dr Groove met up with Michael. You can hear the interview and his superb saxophone playing in an awesome track that follows, from his very recommended CD entitled Heat.
SOUL SENSATION SEGMENT
Incognito – A real gem from their recent CD, ‘Tales From The Beach’. Which the Doc says’s he has played until his CD laser beams got worn out!
NB Checkout Bluey, on a recent podcast by Gilles Peterson. Visit http://www.gillespetersonworldwide.com/ then click podcasts .
Recently, Incognito celebrated their 30th year.
Jiva- – A personal favourite of the Prof who’s regularly listened to Jiva on http://www.myspace.com/jivaonline – NB Good News this track is available on iTunes and on the new JazzFM compilation CD.. We’ve had Jiva’s music on Smooth Groovers before and have also featured their lead vocalist Rhonda Thomas back in season 2.
BRING IT BACK SEGMENT
Maxwell – An incredible blend of funk and soul with a huge level of smoothness from a 1998 CD for which an Amazon.com reviewer wrote
it’s a groove masterpiece from start to finish.
The album is entitled: Embrya.
Brian Culbertson – from the CD: Bringing Back the Funk, a track that was probably not named after Dr Groove. Brian can be described as keyboardist, trombonist, writer, arranger, producer and the most exciting live performing instrumentalist on the scene today.
Paul Hardcastle, Direct Drive, First Light – A real blast from the past. Released 2001, which the Doc still has on original vinyl -first released back in 1981. As well as a string of popular hits, Paul has also recorded several synth jazz albums, alternating releases under the artist names The Jazzmasters, and Paul Paul. Working regularly with vocalist Helen Rogers. Last year he won the Billboard Smooth Jazz Artist Of The Year award.
Chieli Minucci and Special EFX – Ending the show with a track from the 2007 Special EFX CD entitled: Sweet Surrender. Another Prof favourite with feel-good-factor. At the end of the track Professor Smooth describes the origin of the song which you can also read about on Chieli’s website.
Until Next Time – Keep It Smooth
Love Dr Groove and Professor Smooth
Bringing you the music for the love of it!
